Take the nails out

On Wednesday there was a very interesting Gospel message from the Gospel of Mark. We might call it the Gospel of Wisdom On one hand the description was that Jesus spoke wisely. What kind of Wisdom has been given him the people acclaimed? They were astonished.  Now the people had come there to hear Jesus teach… and he taught

Gospel of Mark Chapter 6 Verses 1-6
When the sabbath came he began to teach in the synagogue,
and many who heard him were astonished.
They said, “Where did this man get all this?
What kind of wisdom has been given him?
What mighty deeds are wrought by his hands!

Great news

Have you ever had such good news in your life… maybe something you read, maybe something that really interests you, maybe something you have been studying all your life… You want to share this information… You are so moved with this information that you will even share it with strangers.

The strangers take the information with gratitude and thanks.  They also are moved by your information and are astounded by what you say. You are going well.  You get home and you want to tell your family and that blank stare of oh Dad is talking again; sigh I have heard that before.

Gospel of Wisdom

Now the family loves you, but one of the saddest things is that if people know you and see you and take you for granted… nothing is going to wow them.  They know you too well.

Look at the reaction to the Son of God today.  They saw Jesus not as God but as that Carpenters son or the little boy that played up the street. And instead of being joyous for the wisdom and astounding teaching, they took offense and decided to ignore Him.  Nothing that Jesus did was going to get rid of the container that each person assumed Jesus was. He is the carpenter’s son… no way he could do anything but work stone or nail wood…

Is he not the son of Mary… he is our friend and relative… no one we know could be so great.  What a tragedy. Nothing could be done in that town because most of the people had predetermined what and who Jesus is. They had made Jesus into their own image and likeness.

Made into a box

We hear of both believers and non-believers who simply make Jesus into what they want Him to be. If I limit God into some fantasy god or think all I have to do is say some magic words and Poof Jesus will take care of me.  If you think something you can do is going to make God like you more or love you more, you are sadly mistaken.  God loves you already with all of his love… No greater love can be had.  You cannot impress him you cannot change his love for you.

What you can do is simply love him back do the astounding thing by listening and learning… then tell friends neighbors and even family the things you have learned.  See if you can have them break out of the box they have put you in and if we look honestly the box we have put them in as well.

Become like the carpenter… take those nails out of the wood.
