The Devil went down to Georgia…

Oh the devil.  He is one to definitely watch out for.   Many today claim he is not real Oh man… just take a look at what is going on in the world… Oh yes there is a devil and he is very active.

He has been active since the garden of Eden. He just has a whole bunch more people to fool. And we note today as we do each and every Lent… He is an excellent Theologian!

We tend to ascribe human virtue and sinfulness to many things. Sometimes it is our pets…  Ascribing to them the thoughts and actions that we would do.  We tend to make the animals thought process into our own, well, our own image and likeness.

Making God into our own image?

We do that with many things… including making God into our own image and likeness…And you know who really likes it when we do that? Yep that ornery ole devil.   He likes not being believed in.  That makes it easier for him to go on the prowl. Like a lion looking for prey.   He does this very very well. He takes things that are good and he twists it and manipulates it.

He grabs at each of our weaknesses and then manipulates those good things to be used for his own reasons. He wants this world to be filled with depravity and illness. He likes it when we break the 10 commandments.  He likes our Greed… He likes when we use scripture for our own purpose instead of God’s.

He tempted Adam and Eve… He tempted Abraham, Jacob, Israel.  He certainly did David.  But in the end these people were strengthened by God and recovered. How about each of us?

God lounging in His easy chair?

The Devil as we saw today even tried to tempt Jesus… Note how often the word Son of God is used… the devil knows exactly who Jesus is and even uses his Title Son of God. The devil likes it when God is separated and is thought to be distant.  Where do you think the idea of God just sitting up in Heaven doing His own thing while us humans are just left here on Earth doing our own. Having no control over anything.

And we see how the devil uses scripture to get his way. He twists Moses words; he twists God’s words. But who would know God’s word better than God himself.  God is the solution. He knows what thou shall not kill means.  It is part of His very essence. Everything that is in the Bible is meant to reflect God himself. It is not simply a man-made book like a new Dan Patterson novel. It is God and it is the Father teaching g his children how to act and behave

No cherry picking please !

Note that Jesus used scripture to refute the Devil… It is very easy to cherry pick a single line or phrase from the Bible. That is what the Devil is doing. We can talk ourselves into anything that way. Look what is going on around us in the name of goodness and sensitivity.   But stick with the concepts. Let’s call them the Bible Basics.  God is our Father. He wants the best for us. Power, honor, and glory are not things to be given, they are to be earned and you don’t use them for your own gain, but to help others.

I have been allured by many a carnal thing in my life.  The big question is would I betray God for this thing?  I pray not… because that is an awful price to pay for all eternity because of something that will last but a few seconds.  It is good to be careful when making decisions. The devil is there all the time looking for a sweet tasty delight.

Remember your Bible Basics

So the Bible basic to remember The Lord loves you and wants you to be with him forever in Heaven.  That is the same no matter the catechism. Don’t be tricked by the devil. He is roaming and he is ready to make you fall.

Be good Play nice Think God!
