A Fun look at what is happening right now in your area. We look at our ministries, Mental health and the many things going on the Community regarding Service to others, service to our families, and service to ourselves
We have been working in the Saint Charles area for quite a number of years. in 2018 I was ordained a Deacon for the Rockford Diocese and have been assigned to Saint Patrick Parish. Regardless of my Ordination, my goal has always been to help those who live in the area and I believe we have set the groundwork to achieve that goal. As a Deacon I was put in charge of the Service Ministries and am excited to the degree in which they have flourished.
There are many great leaders that have begun several ministries such as Lazarus House Meals, Loaves and Fishes monthly Community Dinner, Senior Services at Bickford. Recently we began a new Ministry called Mental Health which, as its name implies, brings Mental Health to the foreground. Prior to the Pandemic the Elgin Soup Kitchen had been a powerful ministry bringing people together in ways that affected each of us greatly. Many of these ministries were put on hold during the Pandemic, but most are flourishing again under great leadership.

Sanctuary Course for Catholics
The Sanctuary Course for Catholics is an eight-part course for small groups designed to raise awareness and start conversations in local parishes regarding mental health. It was created in collaboration with Catholic mental health professionals, theologians, and clergy, and offers faith communities the opportunity to learn about mental health and grow in their ability to support members living with mental health challenges.
The sessions are accompanied by compelling films that feature the stories of Catholics living with mental health challenges, along with the insights of archbishops, theologians, and psychologists. The course is available to download as a PDF, or as an audiobook if you’d prefer to listen rather than read. There is no homework, but it’s recommended that you read/listen to the sessions in advance of meeting.
